Walking On Presque Isle
May 8, 2011 2:19 am 2 CommentsThis is the first in a series of ideas, tips, and general information about walking on Presque Isle. Each section of the series will cover a different subject. If you are interested, I have covered 20 walks with information about them in my 150-page book entitled “A Walk on the Park”. This book is available at many locations in Erie, and you can order it right here on my blog.
There was a time when everyone walked. They walked to school, work and even grandma’s house. Today most people drive everywhere, so walking seems to have lost its importance in everyday life. I have found that many people, who say they have visited the park, later have told me they just drove around it. They never even stopped and walked onto the beach or trail. However, there is hope, because with today’s increased interest in the health benefits of walking, it is becoming more widespread as a pastime.
Time spent walking is a gentle form of cardiovascular exercise that people of all ages and levels of conditioning can do. It is a fact that ninety minutes walking on Presque Isle gives you the same aerobic benefits as a thirty-minute run without the stress on your joints, and with the chances of injure reduced.
How do you get started walking? Just do it. Come on out and join all of us who walk regularly on the park, rain or shine, summer or winter. You will find that whenever you finally start to walk on the park, you can and will develop new friends and see nature at its best.
